Medina memories

Went for a final stroll through the Medina on my last day in Rabat.  We drove to Casablanca on Friday 23rd for a final meeting with IBM Morocco then fly home on Saturday - I think everyone is looking forward to getting home even though we've had an amazing experience here.

Here are some photos of the Rabat Medina, enjoy!

Sunday in Sale

On Sunday Karen, Tej and I headed by tram over the bridge to Sale (pronounced Sar-lay) to have a walk along the beach front.  We had a really leisurely day, just taking our time walking along the beach or sitting on the rocks looking back over the Casbah.

After lunch in Sale we headed  back by tram to the Rabat side of the water and visited Mohammed V's tomb, a very popular tourist spot - both locals and the usual busloads of Chinese tourists.

The ornate ceiling in the tomb

Dinner at our favourite chinese restaurant, they do a great hot and sour soup "sans viande" (without meat) and spicy tofu, again sans viande.

Medina Meandering

During our third and final weekend here in Rabat we all stayed in town as most of the groups had some work to do on their assignments.

On Saturday morning most of us walked down to the Medina to do some "final" shopping - Andrew had already sussed out the best shops for fezs and pashminas which is what some of us were after.  We stayed on Rue des Consuls which is the "artisan" end of the Medina, near the Casbah - this is where you find the best carpets, artwork, scarves, bags, jewellery etc.

Spices, pastas, oils, legumes, and so on

After making the required purchases some of the group headed back to the hotel to work and the rest of us (myself, Karen, Mihoko and Austin) went for a walk around the Casbah then back through the Medina up Avenue Mohammed V to try and find a japanese restaurant that had been recommended.  We had no luck finding the restaurant but it was a nice walk up a palm-tree lined boulevard.

We went to a nice French restaurant on Saturday night that specialised in crepes.  Lovely meal though somewhat ruined by the chain-smoking couples at neighbouring tables.  We travelled to and from the restaurant by tram - they have two tram lines here, the red and the blue - very flash new trams, very quick and easy to use.
